USWHPRO: Is there a woman who inspires you?

Meghan: Two actually, Jasmine Ringo and Sonia Roselli – Both are professional makeup artists and educators. I’ve followed both of these women for years and watched them grow their artistic abilities as well as their businesses. It is inspiring seeing such strong-willed women, especially when it’s in your field, succeed.

USWHPRO: What inspired you to start Gals & Ghouls?

Meghan: I have always loved makeup, mostly applying it to myself and trying out different colors and combinations. At a young age, I didn’t realize that being a Makeup Artist was something you could do for a living. Talk about a game-changer. After receiving my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Wayne State, I still felt like I was missing something. Fast forward a few years, I stumbled across a school that taught makeup only. Dayna and I met there and quickly developed a friendship that grew to a business partnership as well. We specialize in bridal, beauty, and special effects makeup as well as do film and commercial work, we needed a name that portrayed our skill set. From that, Gals & Ghouls was created.

USWHPRO:  Have you faced adversity as a woman in any of your work experiences? How did you overcome it?

Meghan: Being a woman in business, I feel like I have to constantly prove myself. Especially owning a company based on makeup. A lot of people don’t see this as a real career rather a hobby or fun side project. I remind myself that I’ve helped build a company that makes people feel like the best versions of themselves and that is something I’m proud of.

USWHPRO:  Do you have any advice for other women interested in starting their own businesses?

Meghan: My advice to other women interested in starting their own business would be to practice your craft, become an expert, and be confident. Always work hard and don’t be afraid of having doors closed on you, it’s only a stepping stone to something greater. Learn from your mistakes and think outside the box. And lastly, never lose sight of your end goal or yourself.

Accounting Specialist | Since June 2020

ļ»æļ»æ

Meet Gracie, one of our newest team members: My name is Graciela Bobé and I’m in the Accounting Dept. I’m a very friendly and patient person. I’m a mother, a daughter. and a wife. I like to be punctual and organized.

 ļ»æļ»æ

USWHPRO:  Is there a woman who inspires you?ļ»æ

Gracie: I can honestly say that the only woman who inspires me a hundred percent of my daily life is my dear mother. She only has a second grade education level, however she’s for sure one of the most noble, loving and selfless people I know. I was raised by a remarkable mother who taught me what it means to be a strong woman. She taught me to love God and respect life no matter what comes at you, to work hard and be trustworthy. I’m the person I am today because of her and her beautiful soul.

ļ»æļ»æ

USWHPRO: What is your favorite thing about working at USWHPRO?ļ»æ

Gracie: This is my fourth week working for USWHPRO and I can say my favorite thing is the people. It’s like working with family, I get to know everyone.

 ļ»æļ»æ

USWHPRO: Do you feel you have faced adversity as a woman in the business world? How were you able to overcome it?

Gracie: The only adversity I can think of has to be Social, in a world ruled by men you have to sometimes ignore comments to a level at work, to keep your sanity. Other than that I’ve been blessed with remarkable women, my former manager, Sr. Director of Credit, and CEO were women.

ļ»æļ»æ

USWHPRO: Do you have any advice for other women in the business world?

Gracie: Work hard and responsibly to achieve success. Be honest and trustworthy! Be confident and beautiful!

USWHPRO: Is there a woman who inspires you?

Sasha: My mom. The fashion part of my Business she inspired me greatly, growing up always dressing up in cool outfits and she'd put me in some really cute outfits. She has always pushed me to be great. She always told me to make sure I do things the way I want too. After I graduated college for Architecture, I took a leap into the Fashion world also.

ļ»æ

USWHPRO: What inspired you to start FMD?

Sasha: I have always been surrounded by Design. My dad is a contractor. No matter if it was a remodel or going to the store to pick tile I quickly fell in love with the process when I would go to work with him. My mom is very Artistic and was super into Fashion so as a kid I was influenced in that way and it stuck with me. I loved the concept of being to design the physical world around us, and what you step out into this world in. It all came together and now I do it all professionally.

 ļ»æ

USWHPRO: Have you faced adversity as a woman in any of your work experiences? How did you overcome it?

Sasha: Being a woman in a male dominated Architecture field, I'd get talked to like I didn't know anything on jobsites or in meetings. I just learned to stand strong and make sure to speak up and let them know I have every right to be there as them.

USWHPRO: Do you have any advice for other women interested in starting their own businesses?

Sasha: If you have an idea just do it! Just jump in!  I sat on this idea for years and I finally just took a leap of faith and I am glad I did. I was interested in so many things, I went with my strongest passion for school which was Architecture. But I didn't let up on my other passions. Still take classes of your other interests. Even though I didn't major in it I still got useful tools that help me know in my business. You don't have to just be stuck doing one thing. During Grad school a flip switched on. I was like' I love Architecture but I also love Fashion And Graphic Design.' I put them all under one roof and Fierce Modern Designs was born- your one stop shop for all your design needs.

Owner + Lead Make-up Artist | Licensed Esthetician ļ»æļ»æ

ļ»æļ»æ

USWHPRO: Is there a woman who inspires you?

Allissa: Inspiration, wow there so many women who inspire me & thanks to social media we will really get to follow along & have exposure to so many different people so that’s a tough one for me. I would have to say mother inspires me, she is the hardest worker I know & gives 100% to everything she does. There are days I truly don’t know how she does it. I have always admired her work ethic she is definitely “where there is a will there is a way kind of woman.”

ļ»æ

USWHPRO: What inspired you to start All Dolled Up?

Allissa: Beauty school inspired All Dolled Up that was the first time I performed makeup on someone else & my class was pretty blown away as was I. Seeing how I made the model look & feel I just absolutely fell in love with the whole process. Out of beauty school I noticed a lack of customer service in the beauty industry as well as natural makeup application so I refocused my services around those needs & have never looked back.

ļ»æļ»æ

USWHPRO: Have you faced adversity as a woman in any of your work experiences? How did you overcome it?

Allissa: Adversity in the work place is definitely an issue. Have I personally faced any for the specific fact of being a woman no, fortunately most of my line of work involved industries made up of primarily women. However I have faced adversities such bullying in the workplace which definitely has its own challenges. I’m not perfect so I wish could tell you it never bothered me, it 100% did. However, I just chose to keep my head up & not dim light or my work ethic for others. If people are offended by your eagerness to learn & provide outstanding services that’s more about them than it is about you. Keep shining ALWAYS!

ļ»æ

USWHPRO: Do you have any advice for other women interested in starting their own business? Or interested in make-up artistry?ļ»æ

Allissa: My advice for future business owners, never give up. There will absolutely be bumps in the road, so prepare for them & expect them; I promise it will be ok! Make sure you have a plan but remember that plan can & will change. Do as much research as you can, save, save, save! However remember one day you just have to jump & take that leap of faith, there is no such thing as security when you are starting a business. Be adaptable, oh & did I say NEVER GIVE UP!
