We are proud to finally have our blog back in the mix, with this announcement! Since early 2018, we have provided "Frantz" Lumber Sign with uswhpro Truckservice to customers across the border in Eastern Iowa, especially around the Davenport area. Over the last year, we have been working to provide a larger area of service coverage in the state, which has led us to our newest team/family member, Tom! He is based out of Clarion, located in North Central Iowa, our newest gateway to the west. One of Tom’s goals is to see complete coverage of the state of Iowa and continued service expansion out west to Nebraska, coupled with the development of a team of local service technicians.

As our Iowa service realm grows, we are confident that Tom will not only set a prime example for future local technicians, but also bring leadership, ingenuity, and compassion to his home state. Tom brings an impressive background with 20 years of military experience and insurance brokerage, and construction experience. He also brings an impressive background in education, with a Bachelor’s in Human Resource Management and Information Technology, as well as a Masters in Human Resource Management. Tom will be employing his skills to educate our customers, carrying his ideals from insurance brokerage: “Making sure you’re taken care of for a fair or better price.”

As for homeowners/business owners and their water heaters, Tom advises simple maintenance to prevent the need for emergency service: “Make sure that the area around your unit is clean [and free of obstacles, especially fire hazards] and be aware of weather in your area. If you live on a flood plain, you may want to elevate your unit on a platform and turn off the breaker that powers your unit, for safety purposes.” If this situation occurs, please do so with caution and do not submerse yourself in flood water to disconnect your water heater. More than a Technician: Supporting the Clarion Community

Tom is also an active supporter of the Clarion community, through shopping at local small and family owned businesses such as Granny’s Mixing Bowl, Mister G’s, and the Art U Creative; but also through the foundation of Clarion Lights for a Cause. Christmas time was difficult time for Tom; he spent two Christmases overseas in Iraq and lost several members of his unit on Christmas Day in 2007. The following year, he began to experience the effects of that loss; despite having a newborn in the house and the fact that it was the holiday season, he could not bring himself to smile until he saw an impressive Christmas lights show in Minnesota. The show made Tom smile for the first time during the holiday season, so he decided to share that joy by creating his own lights show. Following his move from Minneapolis to Iowa, Tom decided to continue his show in Clarion, expanding the show to over 128 channels! Although the purpose of the show was to make people smile and to brighten their day, many visitors began leaving envelopes with money to “cover the electrical bills.” Rather than keeping the money, he decided to pick a local organization or charity to receive 100% of the donations. In the past, the donations have supported the local VFW post, families in Clarion, Clarion Cub Scouts, and MORE! Donations are also accepted via the Clarion Lights for a Cause website!

Although Tom’s community involvement and dedication demonstrate his incredible character, his morals are also reflected in his words: “I would rather know that I helped someone somehow. I’m richer just knowing that person. Be significant in some way, shape, or form every day because when you help people, they remember that.”

Stay tuned for more on Tom’s journey and Clarion Lights for a Cause! We are so proud to have Tom on our team and as a member of our family, especially as he continues to support the Clarion community.
